Historical collection of Casa Zuzu Angel

Monday, November 18, 2024

Showing in cinemas all over Brazil, "I'm Still Here", a film that tells the story of Eunice Paiva's search for the whereabouts of her husband, Congressman Rubens Paiva, who was murdered by the civil-military dictatorship of 1964, brings to mind the suffering of so many other women who were never able to find the bodies of their husbands, brothers, and sons who were tortured and killed during the years of lead. The Zuzu Angel Institute congratulates the children of Eunice and Rubens Paiva, Vera Paiva and Marcelo Rubens Paiva, author of the award-winning book that inspired the film, and the talented directors of the work, Walter Salles Jr. and Daniella Thomas, as well as the producers, for this important contribution to remembering this terrible period in the history of our country. In our collection, in the collection of documents of Zuzu Angel's political activity, we have stored in our archives letters, manuscripts, posters, newspapers, magazines, and original documents that record facts and stories from this very difficult period in the history of our country. The Angel Joneses and the Paivas are two families linked by the same Brazilian tragedy, which brought together, in their morbid "Wanted" posters, those who had already been murdered by the Brazilian State, as if they were still alive, Stuart Angel Jones and Rubens Paiva.
